Important Questions to Ask

To help in your selection of a venue keep in mind that there are many elements that need to come together to make your day special. Meet with the banquet manager and anyone that will be handling your wedding on the day itself and in the preparations. You need to be able to work with these people in order for your wedding to run smoothly. Enough said! Ask, of course, about the availability of the room, dates and times, and is there any allowances for overtime. What is the room capacity. Too big or too small can create an uncomfortable atmosphere. Is there a place for the ceremony if you wish to have it there, and is there a separate room for the cocktail hour. Look at all the rooms that you are considering and ask if any renovations are to be made around the time of your wedding. Ask if any other events will be going on at the same time; this is important with regards to parking and bathroom facilities. With regards to parking, is it valet or not? Will the bathroom have an attendant? Is there a coat check?

Style, Theme, and Location

Your wedding date is set, so the first basic decisions to tackle are style, theme, and location. Budget plays a part in these decisions too, and of course should be considered. Style and location of your event will influence the cost. Formal events in urban areas tend to be more expensive, so that’s where your research can pay off. Word of mouth, Yellow Pages, and the Internet are your best friends during your engagement. Tackle the biggest issues first: choosing a location for your ceremony and reception. If you are using a familiar house of worship this is your first place to start confirming dates.

Time Frame

When you decide to get married, THE DATE, becomes all important.

You need a certain amount of time to accomplish all that a wedding involves.

Venues become booked early, and even churches need adequate notice. If you are working under a time restraint you should be willing to be more open-minded, and less picky. You may also be forced to spend more money since research and bargain hunting will be limited.

Incorporating elements of the season that you are marrying in may save you money but feel free to mix and match your favorite details. Each season brings its own beauty and obstacles when planning a wedding, but after deciding on a date, you can choose to have a seasonal theme wedding, or do as you please.

When choosing a wedding date remember that details don’t just happen and it is better to have plenty of time to research and plan so that you can feel confident about providing your guests with a memorable time as well as enjoying your special day.
