Flowers

Flowers, flowers, everywhere-that should be your mantra. What other occasion, affair, party, has the quantity and variety of flowers but at a wedding? They set the mood, express religious customs, and transform a space with their colors, shapes, and scents. They can change a plain hall into a wonderland, an aisle into a garden, a home into a castle, and just make everything look special. Selecting seasonal flowers adds appropriate style besides being cost effective. Flower availability can vary from region to region , so check with your florist to see what will be in season for your wedding as well as year round flower choices. Brides don’t just have to use traditional flowers. New hybrids are always popping up. Berries and flowering greenery as well as potted plants and fresh produce(apples, lemons, pears, pineapples) can be turned into beautiful, unexpected arrangements.

Your flower budget is usually 10 percent of your wedding budget, but you can discuss price with your florist. Each florist can usually negotiate. A gifted florist designer can work wonders on any budget. Unless you are dead set on flowers that are totally out of season, or an extremely difficult design your florist should be able to stay within a decent budget. If cost is not an issue, or you just have to have a special flower -go for it – perhaps you can use it in your bouquet and not as an overall decorating statement. You may not have to pick every floral piece that will be at your wedding if you trust your florist or have seen his work. You may just have to tell him the style and color your looking for and he will create it for you. Of course, check magazines and the internet and decide on what you like, but try to keep an open mind.

Assess your wedding site with your florist and see what kind of pieces will enhance the site. Don’t forget the entrance to your setting-remember first impressions- whether it be an elaborate arch or a simple wreath, it should say welcome to a special occasion. Hanging lights, twinkling lights, fabric, decorative urns, candles, flower pedals, seashells, and different shaped vases, can provide interesting touches throughout your wedding site, and can be provided by you or your florist.

Flowers should enhance and affirm your theme, whether it be elegance, fantasy, natural, seascape, or casual. Some florists book up to a year in advance, so start your search shortly after becoming engaged, to ensure enough time to make your dreams come true.
